Pancreatic surgery is associated with high rate of postoperative complications

•Pancreatic surgery is associated with high rate of postoperative complications1, 2.

•Pancreatic cancer, a leading cause to pancreatic surgeries, has more than doubled from 1990 to 20173.

•Its incidence continues to increase as the population ages and the prevalence of obesity and diabetes, increase.

•Pancreatic operations are an important and growing field of surgery worldwide4

•Intraoperatively derived fluid from the peripancreatic environment may cause complications5, 6, 7

•At present, there are no reliable ways to indicate or visualize pancreatic fluid leakage during pancreatic surgery

•Intraoperative detection of pancreatic fluid leakage may affect reducing complications6
